Hawthorn Football Club (Vic)

General :
This was one of a few different Hawthorns. Many thanks to the folk at Early History of Hawthorn (website now lapsed) for this information.

Guernseys & Nicknames :
1893 - Hawthorn wore a blue guernsey with red socks, and maybe with a white sash. They were known as the Redlegs.
1895 - Hawthorn wore 'almost identical' colours to Austral this season. Not sure what those colours were, but am given no reason to believe they had changed since 1893.
1897 - Hawthorn were known as the Redlegs.

Grounds :
1893 - Hawthorn played home matches on 'Cam's Paddock'.
1894 - Hawthorn played home matches at Grace Park.
1895 - Hawthorn moved to the Hawthorn Cricket Ground (Saint James Park), and then to relocated to Richmond Racecourse.
1896 - Earlier, Hawthorn played at Richmond Racecourse, but later moved to Richmond City Reserve, and then to the Hawthorn Cricket Ground.
1897 - Hawthorn and Hawthorn Juniors alternated use of the Lower Hawthorn Reserve (also known as West Hawthorn Reserve and Hawthorn Cricket Ground and later as St.James Park).
1898 - Hawthorn played home matches at Hawthorn Cricket Ground.

Timeline :
1889 :
Victorian Junior FA - Hawthorn were, apparently, a First-Rate junior club.
Wakefield, Edlington, Lyndhurst, Arlington, Hawthorn, Richmond, Kew & Camberwell seemed to be in a local comp.
Hawthorn refused to play Camberwell in a match for the local premiership, so Glenferrie did instead.

1893 (Victorian Junior FA First Rate Section B) :
Hawthorn FC was formed.
Hawthorn played scratch matches against Camberwell, Toorak-Grosvenor and Claremont.
Hawthorn commenced in the Victorian Junior FA First Rate Section B.
Hawthorn finished 4th.

1894 - Victorian Junior FA First Rate Section B : Hawthorn finished 7th.
1895 - Victorian Junior FA First Rate : Hawthorn finished 4th.
1896 - Victorian Junior FA First Rate : Hawthorn finished 9th.
1897 - Victorian Junior FA First Rate : Hawthorn finished 8th.

1898 (Victorian Junior FA) :
Hawthorn finished 9th (last).
This was the final season for this incarnation of Hawthorn FC.

1899 - Hawthorn FC disbanded.
